FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After several years of planning and development, the City of Fort Collins is beginning a major reconstruction of the U.S. 287/College Avenue and Trilby Road intersection.

The first construction package has started and involves installing a new retaining wall near the southwest corner of College Ave. and Trilby Ave. Work commenced on 4/1/24 and should be complete by 8/1/24. This phase will have little to no traffic impacts.

Tree removal operations along the southeast corner of College Ave. and Trilby Rd. are required as part of the intersection improvements that are in progress. Tree removal work is expected to begin Monday, April 22 at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude by the end of the day. Lane closures in the surrounding area should be expected during this time. This tree removal project is dependent on favorable conditions; changes may occur due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

The second phase involves utilities and subsurface work and is slated to begin in June, concurrent with phase one. This phase will have significant traffic impacts to Trilby Rd and College Ave. in the area adjacent to the intersection and is expected to last 4-5 months.

The final construction phase involves surface and streetscape reconstruction and closely follows the subsurface work. Phase three will see continued traffic impacts and is expected to last 4-5 months.

This high-priority project is designed to improve conditions for current and future traffic levels and create a safer intersection for all users. The reconstructed intersection will feature dual left turn lanes from College Ave. to Trilby Rd., right turn lanes for each direction of travel, and a widened Trilby Rd. approach to College Ave. Other improvements include enhancements for bikes and pedestrians, as well as ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks.

Access to nearby residences and businesses will be maintained by detour routes.

Drivers are advised to follow posted detours and drive with caution in the vicinity of construction zones. Traffic delays are expected during peak hours and alternate routes are encouraged.
