ABOUT US

Our focus is to collect, develop and maintain economic, social, land use, and demographic data for the review and analysis of public policy and other planning related issues. We also support several citizen boards and commissions. Advance Planning is responsible for projects and programs in several key areas:

Long Range Planning - is primarily involved in the preparation and management of City Plan, Fort Collins' comprehensive plan and its elements including subarea plans, corridor plans and other special projects.

Demographics
- We also produce Trends, a compilation of pertinent economic and social data of Fort Collins. It is divided into four sections: business, labor and income, development trends, and demographics. Trends is most helpful for people who need to do an assessment of local conditions and resources. It is used by everyone from social service providers... to realtors... to business interests exploring local market potential. To see more, use the links to the right.

Historic Preservation Program
- helps individuals, businesses, and organizations to identify, protect, and preserve Fort Collins' cultural resources and fosters widespread appreciation of and respect for Fort Collins' cultural heritage. Many of this program's goals are accomplished through the work of the Landmark Preservation Commission.

Affordable Housing - is considered as a basic human need, and therefore we work towards increasing the availability of affordable housing in the community. The City's main objective is to cooperatively work with private, public and non-profit developers in the creation and expansion of housing opportunities for households of all income levels and the preservation of existing affordable housing stock.

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program & HOME Program - are the main programs providing federal dollars to our community. Their purpose is to develop neighborhood approaches to improving the physical, economic and social conditions for lower income people in Fort Collins. For over two decades -- whether it's food distribution or daycare - CDBG & HOME grants have provided valuable community services and responded to neighborhood needs.
