As a long-term resident, Karen Weitkunat believes in the community of Fort Collins. Since 1976, she and her husband Tom have owned and operated various small businesses and served in numerous leadership positions throughout the city. A former English teacher, Karen has served on the Colorado Lodging Association, the Ft. Collins Lodging Association, and was an original board member of Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau. She also was the past president of the North College Business Association and a past director for the Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce.
Karen's interest in economic vitality extends to her current membership and activity on the City Council Economic Vitality and Sustainability Action Group (EVSAG). Ms. Weitkunat has served the City of Fort Collins on numerous boards and commissions including the Planning and Zoning Board, the Art in Public Places Board and the Commission on the Status of Women, to name a few.
Karen Weitkunat was first elected to City Council on 1999 and will serve through her second term which expires in 2007. She is also currently self-employed as the owner-operator of Eastside Self Storage.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.
