FCTrip Background Information

Over 120 traffic pucks are used to provide congestion level data.

36 Video Detectors collect traffic data that is used to calculate the congestion and speed levels.

The FCTrip web application was made possible by a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the hard work of the Traffic Operations and Management Information Systems (MIS) departments of the City of Fort Collins.

Goals and Objectives

This project aims to provide travelers in the City of Fort Collins with:

• Timely and accurate information regarding traffic conditions
• A means to gain information regarding alternative modes of transportation
• Information on weather conditions, work area traffic/construction
• Links to Denver Metropolitan Area traveler information
• Technology foundation for future North Front Range Traveler Page

Methods of Data Collection

The FCTrip application uses three different types of collection tools.

These are:

• 26 CCTV cameras – providing live video that is converted into snapshot images
• 36 video detectors – providing data used in calculating congestion levels
• Over 120 pavement sensors – providing data used in calculating congestion levels
