Update May 28th, 2008Road Closure Alert June 1-July 1, 2008The roundabout at Horsetooth and Ziegler is almost complete. Horsetooth Road at Kingsley Drive, to Ziegler Road will be closed to east bound traffic for one month. The road closure will allow crews to finish the remaining section of the roundabout. Motorist traveling east on Horsetooth please use the alternate route: Timberline south, east on to Harmony. Traffic traveling north on Ziegler to Horsetooth will travel on the new section of the roundabout and turn west onto Horsetooth. HZIP March-April 2008Construction Begins on the Horsetooth-Ziegler Roundabout and Ziegler Road ImprovementsPhase II of the Harmony-Ziegler Improvement Project (HZIP) is underway at the intersection of Horsetooth Road and Ziegler Road. A roundabout is being installed at the intersection and a quarter mile stretch of Ziegler Road is being widened. The entire project will take approximately four months to complete. Initially, lanes will not be closed. Some lane shifts and slower traffic flow should be expected on those sections of Horsetooth and Ziegler. Naranjo Civil Constructors is the contracting firm on the project. Starting in May, a portion of eastbound Horsetooth Road between Ashmont and Ziegler will be closed to allow for construction of the second phase of the roundabout. Residents and commuters will need to find alternative routes; there will be signs on site for detour routes. HZIP is a $33 million construction project that Bayer Properties, developers of Front Range Village, has helped fund in anticipation of the lifestyle center’s summer 2008 opening. Phase I of HZIP was completed between July and November 2007. WHY A ROUNDABOUT?Bayer Properties and the Front Range Village Development were required to make improvements to the Horsetooth/Ziegler Intersection based on the additional traffic that would be traveling through the intersection as a result of their development. Based on the unusual pattern of traffic through the intersection where the west and south legs of the intersection see the majority of the traffic, a roundabout was determined to be the best solution to mitigate congestion and improve the intersection for the post-development conditions. H-ZIP August UpdateZiegler Road, Corbett Road, and Gifford Court Reopen to Traffic along Harmony Road on August 19, 2007The City’s engineering department is pleased to announce the reopening of all impacted intersections within the HZIP wok boundaries on Aug. 19th. Due to the aggressive schedule, multiple contractors and City departments have been working since late June to widen Harmony and Ziegler. Here’s what to expect after Sunday, August 19th:
Traffic to and from the local schools in that area will not be restricted by intersection closures. However, the Harmony Ziegler Improvement Project is still under construction. Lanes will drop and move as construction crews complete work on Harmony from west of Snow Mesa to Lady Moon over the next several months. Construction is scheduled to wrap up for the winter in November. Phase II of HZIP will resume in the spring. Safety and caution are extremely important on this, and all City projects. Please drive carefully. Thank you for your continued patience. August 3rd-August 19th
H-ZIP July UpdateConstruction on the Harmony – Ziegler Improvement Project is well underway. Lafarge – North America was awarded the contract in June and promptly began construction on June 25, 2007. The last week of June and the first week of July, HZIP crews concentrated on installing "shoeflies" and doing other work in preperation for the roaday closure. A “shoefly” is the temporary piece of asphalt that is placed in the median area to allow traffic to detour across an existing median. HZIP’s partial roadway closure occurred on Monday, July 9, 2007 and went very smoothly. That same day, traffic signals at Ziegler and Corbett were disconnected, asphalt was milled at the Ziegler and Corbett intersections and utility relocations were initiated. During the third week in July, Schmidt Earth installed pipe systems, Concrete Structures, Inc installed inlet boxes, and Northstar Concrete installed median curb and gutter. All of these processes are in preparation for new landscaped medains along the Harmony Corridor. During the fourth week of July, Schmidt Earth finished gradeing the intersection for concrete paving operations and Northstar Concrete was right behind them installing the concrete pavement in the Harmony-Ziegler intersection. Concrete intersection placement begins at 5:00 AM every morning and is wrapped up by noon. The concrete finishers then setup the concrete forms and reinforcing steel in the afternoon for the next morning’s pour. WORK THAT HAS BEEN COMPLETED:
AUGUST’S CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE:
Work is progressing very rapidly and smoothly. In the upcoming two weeks traffic will be shifted to the north half of Harmony Road so that we can finish installing the concrete intersection at Ziegler Road. This second closure will be for about 2 weeks. Traffic will be set back to normal with traffic on both sides of the median on August 20, 2007. After August 20, there will still be a substantial amount of work to do. This work can be done with single lane closures on the north and south sides of Harmony Road. There will also be substantial work along Ziegler Road that will be done in lane closures. Stay posted to this website for more details. We greatly appreciate the cooperation that has been shown by neighboring businesses and the general public. We have had a few residents and businesses contact us with specific requests and we have tried to resolve those issues. We are always happy to answer any questions or listen to any comments that you may have. Thanks for all of your cooperation and patience.
