WaterSHED
(Stormwater Habitat Education Development) WaterSHED educators lead river field trips and wetland studies for students in third through 12th grade. Hands-on science and math activities take classroom concepts outdoors for active, effective learning. All WaterSHED programs include standards-based science and math activities tailored to each grade level. Field equipment is provided. Grade-Level OfferingsThird Grade: Join us for one or many hours learning about local environments. Begin by exploring wetlands using microscopes and journals. Fifth Grade: Can an orange help measure stream speed? These and other fun landform studies apply what students learned in the FOSS landforms and environment modules to the real world. Data collection, graphing and scientific writing appropriate for fifth and sixth graders are integral pieces of Stream Team studies. Sixth Grade: Students don waders and enter streams to collect and examine aquatic insects in town or in Pingree Park. They discover how taking care of our land and water supports life. Junior High Participate in river week or bring your students to the river for an hour or two. Students conduct actual science and math experiments. Options include:
All activities are standards-based and exciting for active students. High School: Water chemistry, indicator species and environmental studies are high level and fun. Customized to your needs, these programs fit science standards for biology, chemistry and environmental studies. We provide the equipment and work with you to achieve your teaching objectives. |
