West Nile Spraying Notifications
Overview of serviceSubscribeUnsubscribe> Frequently Asked Questions
What risk indexes will trigger adulticiding?

The risk indexes, based on recommendations by the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment, are as follows:

  • West Nile Virus mosquito risk index (average # of Culex females per trap night times infection rate/1000)  >= 0.75

    and/or

  • Sudden rise in Larimer County birds submitted that test positive for West Nile Virus

    and/or

  • 1 or more lab-confirmed Larimer County horse West Nile Virus cases close to urban-density population

    and/or

  • 1 or more humans with evidence of recent WNV infection (repeatedly positive nucleic amplification tests in blood donors, or positive ELISA IgM/PRNT with compatible clinical illness)
How can I subscribe?
You can use our West Nile Virus Notification form, or you can call (970) 663-5697 to be put on the list. (You can unsubscribe online as well.)
What types of notifications are being offered?
  Phone, e-mail, or both.
How long does it take to get on the notification list?
Phone entries are added on the next business day, e-mail is immediate.
Will I receive notifications when ANY neighborhood is going to be adulticided, or just my neighborhood?
The City of Fort Collins is divided into six areas that are tested weekly, and the WNV notification service will allow you to choose which area is in your interest.
When are the notifications sent?
Notifications will be sent out 24 hours in advance of any spraying. For example, if adulticiding is to occur on Thursday evening, calls and e-mail notices will be sent out to registered citizens on Wednesday evening.
How does the phone notification system work?
The phone calls are recorded messages, therefore, people who utilize caller ID or regularly screen phone calls should realize that there will be a several second delay before the message begins playing. A busy phone signal or the absence of an answering machine will cause the automated phone notification service to call recipients twice within an hour and a half period. If there is no response, the automated phone function is discontinued for that day only.
