This cabinet depicts myths based upon two birds sacred to the indigenous peoples of the Americas. The Resplendent Quetzal is known to many throughout Central and South America due to its beauty and the belief that when the mute quetzal sings once again, the people of the land will finally be free. The Raven is revered throughout North America as the trickster god who stole back the sun from a selfish chieftain and returned it to its place in the sky. The birds will be shown in their own habitats, the Quetzal in a lush tropical jungle and the Raven in a dense pine forest. Each bird’s defining myth will be rendered with the inclusion of metallic paint to accent the sun token clenched in the Raven’s beak, and the liberating song of the Quetzal.
