Rattlesnake Mega-den in Northern Colorado; Be Snake Awake!

North of Fort Collins, researchers have discovered a “mega den” of rattlesnakes, which could explain why trail users in the foothills have seen so many snakes this year. Project RattleCam, a research project based in California, is helping make it possible for people to view the reptile activity. Cameras tucked away in the hillside can livestream the snakes to their website. The geological makeup of this area protects the snakes from wind and other elements, making it a rare and desirable habitat for hundreds of rattle snakes.

Please remember to be mindful of rattle snakes in natural areas and stay on the trail!
