The City of Fort Collins has identified a cybersecurity incident involving a phishing email that was sent from the City’s email system. The email was sent to both internal and external users; recipients have been notified and advised to not open attachments or share personal or credential information.

The City’s IT department and third-party vendors have addressed the issue, are investigating the source of this phishing attack and will continue to monitor the situation.

“This incident was limited to one email account and we do not believe it involved any data breaches,” said Kevin Wilkins, City of Fort Collins Chief Information Officer. “As a reminder, it's crucial to be diligent in all digital interactions. Always verify the authenticity of communications—whether by phone, email, or text—and never enter or share security credentials without confirming the validity of the source.”
