FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The City of Fort Collins is excited to announce the "Frost Fleet," a community collaboration that has rebranded six of the City’s snowplows as characters imagined by local elementary students. Frost Fleet highlights the essential work of the City’s Streets Maintenance Department, which manages snow plowing operations each year.
In collaboration with Poudre School District (PSD), the Frost Fleet project received more than 120 creative snowplow name submissions from elementary school classrooms across Fort Collins. After careful consideration, 20 finalists were selected for a final round of voting by the City’s snowplow drivers. The winning names, now proudly displayed on six snowplows, are: Snowbacca, Larry the Snow Czar, The Blizzard of Oz, Scoop Dog, The Abominable Snow Monster and Snowzilla.
The Frost Fleet’s unveiling included special field trips for the classrooms whose submissions were chosen. Students had the opportunity to meet snowplow drivers, get an up-close view of the plows and learn about the critical role that snow removal plays in keeping Fort Collins safe and accessible during winter months.
“This project is a great example of how we can collaborate with our community in fun and meaningful ways,” City of Fort Collins Senior Manager of Transportation Operations James Reed said. “The Frost Fleet showcases our team's hard work and helps our youngest community members understand the importance of the services we provide, all while having some fun and using their creativity.”
The City of Fort Collins looks forward to seeing the Frost Fleet in action this winter, ensuring that streets are cleared quickly and efficiently while proudly displaying names chosen by the community’s youngest residents.
