City to host boards and commissions open house Nov. 7

The City of Fort Collins invites residents to learn about volunteering for City boards and commissions at an open house 5-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 7 at Fort Collins City Hall, 300 Laporte Ave.
During the open house, residents can explore the work of different boards and commissions, and learn more about volunteering for them. The City has 23 boards and commissions that make recommendations to City Council focused on a variety of subjects, from affordable housing, to transportation, to water and energy, and more.
“Boards and commissions are a fantastic way for residents to help shape their community and impact their local government,” said Public Engagement Specialist Davina Lau. “They form an important bridge between Council and the community.”
Boards and commissions are comprised of community member volunteers who advise City Council on issues related to a specific subject area. Boards study information and make recommendations to City Council, while commissions have decision-making powers within their areas of expertise, such building review or historic preservation.
Boards and Commissions Recruitment
Nearly all boards and commissions will have openings in 2025, and applications will be accepted from Dec. 1, 2024 through Jan. 10, 2025.
Community members may apply for up to three boards or commissions (a separate application must be submitted for each). However, if selected, applicants will only be appointed to serve on one board or commission.
Two- and four-year terms are available, depending on the board or commission, and members must reside within the Fort Collins Growth Management Area throughout their term.
