UPDATE: Police Make Arrest in 2024 Assault/Home Invasion Investigation
Fort Collins Police Detectives have made an arrest in connection with a case from May 2024, in which a masked man entered a woman’s home and assaulted her.
Following the initial press release in May 2024, Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) issued a follow-up release in November 2024, seeking additional information from the community to help identify a suspect. As a result of this continued outreach, FCPS received a tip in January 2025 from a community member who reported an encounter with a male living in the same apartment complex as the victim. Based on this interaction, the tipster believed this individual could be connected to the assault.
Using the information from the tip, Detectives initiated an investigation into the suspect. On February 1, 2025, the FCPS Crimes Against Persons Unit and Criminal Impact Unit executed a search warrant at an apartment located at 1200 East Stuart Street. During this search, detectives recovered evidence linking the suspect to the incident.
As a result of the investigation, the FCPS Criminal Impact Unit and School Resource Officer took Ethan Campbell (DOB 11/27/2006) into custody at Fort Collins High School without incident today, February 13, 2025.
Campbell was issued a $750,000 cash bond and was booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following charges:
Class 2 Felony- Attempted Murder in the 1st Degree
Class 3 Felony- 1st Degree Assault
Class 3 Felony- 1st Degree Burglary
Felony Sentence Enhancer- Crime of Violence
Mr. Campbell was a juvenile at the time of the initial incident; however, due to the severity of the crime, he is being charged as an adult.
The suspect and victim did not have a personal relationship, but both lived in the same apartment complex.
“Ensuring the safety of our community is our highest priority, and we are committed to holding those who commit violent acts accountable. This arrest is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of our detectives who worked tirelessly to identify and apprehend this suspect, and we will continue to support the victim however we can as the case moves through the justice system,” said Lieutenant Adam Ruehlen who oversees the Criminal Investigations Division. “We are extremely grateful to the community member who came forward with crucial information. Their courage and willingness to speak up played a vital role in this investigation, reminding us that even the smallest tip can be the key to solving a case. We also want to thank our media partners at the Coloradoan and CBS 4 for sharing the victim’s story, which ultimately led to the arrest of this suspect. This partnership highlights the vital role our community and media play in helping us keep Fort Collins safe.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Fort Collins Police Services through the tip line at (970) 416-2825 or tipsline@fcgov.com.
Charges are merely an accusation by law enforcement and the suspect must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
