Suspect Arrested After Early Morning Burglary Attempt and Firearm Discharge in Fort Collins

Released on Friday, November 22, 2024

During the early morning hours of November 22, 2024, at approximately 2:15 a.m. Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) responded to a burglary in progress at the 1100 block of Laporte Avenue. During his attempt to enter the house, the suspect fired a single round from a handgun into the air. When officers arrived on scene, they were unable to locate the suspect immediately, but heard an additional round fired nearby.

A NoCo Alert stating, “lock doors and remain inside” was sent to the area and two houses were evacuated while police set up a perimeter to locate the suspect. The FCPS Drone Unit and an additional K9 Unit were used to track the suspect to a backyard in the 100 block of Pearl Street. He was not cooperative and, after approximately one and a half hours of announcements, officers were able to take him safely into custody.

The suspect was taken to Larimer County Jail and booked on charges of trespass, discharging a firearm, prohibited use of a weapon and resisting arrest. It is unclear at this time if the suspect had attempted to fire the second round at officers when they arrived. No officers or bystanders were hurt. The firearm was recovered at the scene.
