Police Investigate Gang Related Shootings
Earlier this year, a gang feud erupted between two rival gangs in Fort Collins. Since that time, Fort Collins Police Criminal Impact Unit Detectives have been completing investigations into multiple incidents involving the two gangs.
On July 30, 2024, 15-20 rounds were fired from handguns in a neighborhood near the downtown business district of Fort Collins. These rounds struck multiple buildings, vehicles, and property causing damage. No one was injured during this conflict. Evidence was collected during this investigation, which led to two individuals being charged with attempted murder. One of those individuals is in custody at this time for attempted murder charges from an incident that stemmed from earlier in the year and has a cash bond of $500,000. The second individual has an active warrant for their arrest for attempted murder as well. Detectives are following up on information regarding this suspect’s whereabouts.
On August 2, 2024, there was another shooting with multiple rounds fired in the same general area. No one was injured and detectives have evidence to connect this instance with gang activity as well.
“Gang related violence and the indiscriminate firing of rounds in a highly populated neighborhood will not be tolerated in Fort Collins. Our detective’s investigation will not cease until everyone who has played a role in these dangerous acts are located and arrested,” said Fort Collins Police Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky who oversees the Criminal Impact Unit.
