Meet Our Teams in Planning and Development#

Long-Range Planning

As long-range planners, we are responsible for developing comprehensive strategies and policies that guide urban development over extended periods, often spanning several decades. We analyze demographic trends, assess infrastructure needs, and formulate plans to ensure sustainable growth, optimal land use, and the enhancement of overall quality of life for residents.

Development Review

As Fort Collins grows, our job is to review and evaluate new development project ideas that are proposed on private property.

Our team makes sure new development matches what our community wants for Fort Collins. We check new ideas and proposals against rules in the Land Use Code. Colleagues in other City departments check new proposals against other rules as well. These codes all help us to ensure that as Fort Collins grows and changes, it grows in a way that meets the mission, vision, and values of the City.

Zoning

As zoning inspectors, we are responsible for administering and enforcing zoning regulations to guide the use of land and maintain orderly development. These regulations pertain to such things as the establishment of different zone districts, permitted uses in the various districts, signs, fences, home occupations, parking, landscaping, and general site layout and design.
