Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision
On October 15, 2024 at approximately 9:50 pm, Fort Collins Police were notified of a serious collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of East Harmony Road and South Lemay Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, they located the pedestrian, an adult male, who was deceased. They also discovered that the pedestrian was struck by multiple vehicles, all of which stayed on scene. Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.
To this point, the investigation has revealed that the pedestrian was crossing East Harmony Road when he was struck. Witnesses indicated there was a green light for vehicle traffic travelling on Harmony Road when the collisions occurred, but officers are still working to confirm that information. The pedestrian was wearing dark colored clothing, and officers are investigating if alcohol was a factor with the pedestrian.
“Unfortunately, pedestrian related crashes continue to increase across the state, and Fort Collins is no exception to that. To ensure everyone’s safety, it’s crucial for drivers to be attentive at pedestrian crossings, and for pedestrians to adhere to crosswalk signals at all times,” said Sergeant David Lindsay who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.
The intersection of East Harmony Road and South Lemay Avenue was closed for approximately 4 ½ hours while investigators processed the scene. Anyone with information about this collision who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Brandon Barnes at (970) 221 6540. The Larimer County Coroner will release the cause, manner, and identity of the decedent at a later time and after notification of next of kin.
