Notes
Flora of North America lists three subspecies of A. cana, all native to the U.S. In Colorado subspecies viscidula is found on the west slope and subspecies cana is native to the east slope, including the Fort Collins area. They are similar in appearance and vary slightly in the shape and size of their leaves.
Inflorescence is somewhat persistent after it dries on plant.
