Not very drought tolerant but, can withstand slightly acidic or slightly alkaline soils.
Flora of North America lists four subspecies of A. tridentata, all are native to the western U.S. Three of the subspecies listed in this database are native to Colorado. This species is usually shorter than forty inches, has a flat-topped appearance and camphor-like odor when crushed.
