It is unclear if this cultivar meets the City of Fort Collins definition of a “native selection”. Gleditsia triacanthos is primarily native to the midwestern states but, can be found throughout the U.S. planted along streetscapes and in parking lots. In the spring this tree is incredibly fragrant, often making one wonder where the lovely scent is coming from? The flowers of this plant are rather small and inconspicuous. Canker can be a problem for this tree but, it is rarely killed by it.
This cultivar is nearly seedless and thornless. Wrap young trees.
