Notes
Flora of North America recognizes three varieties of P. ponderosa, all native to the U.S. Variety arizonica is native to Arizona and New Mexico and variety ponderosa is native to the west coast. Our native variety scopulorum, is native to the Rocky Mountains and the western Great Plains.
This is an important larval food host for many of our native invertebrates.
Trees can live to be very old, 700+ years.
