Frost Fleet#
About the project
As a part of our connection with the community, we launched the “Frost Fleet” project as a way to engage some our youngest community members in the work our Streets Maintenance Program does for our city, while highlighting the dedication of our snowplow operations team.
In collaboration with Poudre School District (PSD), we asked local elementary school classes to submit names for six of our snowplows. We received over 120 name submissions - and after careful review we shortlisted 20 names our snowplow drivers could vote on. The names with the most votes: Snowbacca, Larry, Blizzard of Oz, Scoop Dog, Abominable Snow Monster, and Snowzilla.
Once our Frost Fleet names were chosen, we coordinated with PSD to arrange field trips for the classes whose submissions were selected. These classes were able to visit with our snowplow drivers, see our snow plows up close, and in some cases toured our Streets Department. We were grateful for the opportunity to educate students about our snowplow operations and the essential services we provide to the Fort Collins community.
The Frost Fleet characters#
The Abominable Snow Monster is not to be trifled with! His passion for snow and ice removal is as large as his bulging muscles.
The Blizzard of Oz has designs to eradicate winter conditions on your street. This diabolical sorcerer makes snow and ice, disappear.
Larry the Snow Czar is in charge of the Frost Fleet. His leadership keeps these menacing characters in line and performing like the elite team they are.
Scoop Dog is the "chill" one. Streets are always clear and safe when this winter canine is patrolling your hood.
Snowbacca hails from an ice and snow covered planet in a far away galaxy. A legendary monster of snow removal, his fame precedes him in many systems.
Snowzilla is a kaiju from another dimension. When she isn’t melting snow and ice with her atomic breath, she likes to demolish cities with friends and family.
Designing the characters#
