Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Released on Wednesday, June 5, 2024

On June 5, 2024, at approximately 7:26 pm, Fort Collins 911 was notified of an injury crash involving a single motorcycle in the 1000 block of East Drake Road. When officers arrived on scene, they located the motorcycle rider, an adult male, with life-threatening injuries. Life saving measures were attempted and the male was transported to an area hospital where the male was pronounced deceased.

Due to this being a fatal crash, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. To this point, the investigation has revealed that the motorcycle, a 2007 Yamaha, was westbound in the 1000 block of East Drake Road when it left the roadway and struck a fence on the north side of the road.

East Drake Road was closed between Lemay Avenue and Stover Street for approximately 4 hours while investigators processed the scene. Police are still investigating what factors played a role in the collision. “The CRASH Team will work to provide answers to the family, friends and community. In the meantime, our thoughts are with all who are affected by this tragic incident,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.

Police are asking for anyone with information about this collision or who may have had dashcam footage of the incident to contact Fort Collins Police Officer David Kaes at (970) 416 2229.
