VIN Verifications
Fort Collins Police Services staff can assist by providing a completed Verification of Vehicle Identification Number (DR 2698) form.
However, our agency does not provide the Certified VIN Inspection (DR 2704) form.
The DR 2698 form verifies vehicle identification details and meets standard requirements for most vehicle-related transactions. For Certified VIN Inspections (DR2704), please schedule an appointment with the Colorado State Patrol. More information, including how to book an appointment, is available on their website at https://csp.colorado.gov/services-we-provide/get-a-vin-inspection.

Appointment Schedule
Fort Collins Police Services conducts VIN Verifications on the following days:
Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
VIN verifications are done by appointment only. Scheduling is available below.
Along with your vehicle and driver’s license, please bring one of the following documents with you to your appointment:
- Vehicle Registration
- Title
- Bill of Sale
Out of State VIN Verification Forms or Inoperable Vehicles
If you need to register your vehicle in a state outside of Colorado, or have a vehicle that cannot be transported to the Fort Collins Police Services building, please call (970) 221-6540 (Option 1), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. As long as the calls for service volume permits, we will request a Community Service Officer to reply once one becomes available.
Please Note:
- Up to 4 vehicles can be processed in one appointment slot.
- Vehicles must be present at the time of the VIN verification.
- Cost is $10 per vehicle and can be paid by cash, credit card, or check. Must be paid at the time of your appointment.
