CIRT Activated for Officer Involved Shooting

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, there was an officer involved shooting in the area around City Park and Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins, CO.

At approximately 12:41 p.m. Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) officers responded to a single-vehicle rollover at the intersection of Bryan Ave. and Mountain Ave. The driver exited the vehicle with a firearm and exchanged gunfire with officers, then ran toward Grandview Cemetery. Officers followed the suspect into the cemetery and more gunfire occurred.

FCPS Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit’s armored rescue vehicle then arrived on scene, allowing officers to safely approach the suspect, who was injured, and rendered aid. He was placed into custody and transported to a local area hospital.

The officer who was shot was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover. The Critical Incident Response Team has been activated. The lead investigative agency will be the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, and any additional information regarding this incident will come from them.
