Neighborhood Advisory Committee

Thanks to our Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC)! The NAC was made up of residents from the Buckingham, Andersonville/San Cristo/Via Lopez and Alta Vista neighborhoods. The purpose of the NAC was to help implement the neighborhood improvement projects from the Lincoln Corridor Plan by reviewing and commenting on project plans, helping to incorporate art, and engaging neighbors in the planning process.

The NAC played an instrumental role in supporting pedestrian art pavers for new sidewalks and the park improvements and neighborhood art projects.

Streets Facility Park Project

thumbnail of conceptual design view conceptual design The City of Fort Collins is planning improvements to the Streets Facility park site (at the southwest corner of Vine/Lemay) to make this more of an amenity to the neighborhoods, improving access to nature and recreation. This site currently includes a basketball court, small picnic area, a stormwater detention area, and an open field. The project is currently being designed to incorporate feedback from the community, with Phase 1 construction tentatively planned for Summer/Fall 2018.

Northside Neighborhood Art Project

The City of Fort Collins, Colorado, Art in Public Places Program (APP) received eleven submissions by artists/artist teams to design concepts for the Northside Neighborhood Art Project. The artists/team selected Mario Miguel Echevarria as the neighborhood artist. Mario has been working with the Project Team and Northside Neighborhood Advisory Committee to develop concepts for artworks that celebrate the history of the Buckingham, Andersonville/San Cristo/Via Lopez and Alta Vista neighborhoods.

The latest plans include:

  1. thumbnail of light pole design view light pole design Neighborhood Light Pole Artworks – design includes Mexican papel picado (“cut paper”), German-Russian metal scrollwork, and a sugar beet reference; theme: three colonies (neighborhoods)/three cultures/three languages uniting as one. Mario developed the concept for artworks on light poles to honor the neighborhood (see illustration). The artist is currently developing the final design, materials, scale, and locations for this artwork.

  2. Interactive playground feature at park – collaboration between artist and Park Planning; historical industry/sugar beet theme; bridges history of multiple cultures
  3. Transformer Cabinet Mural at northwest corner of Lincoln Avenue and 1st Street (Buckingham Park) – design to be determined, possibly developed through a community event
