Nelson Farm Channel and Pond Maintenance Project#

Utilities Stormwater contractors and crews will be working in the Nelson Farm detention pond area located between Lochwood Drive and the Power Trail starting later this fall. The work will occur over one to two months and consists of trenchless pipe rehabilitation of the pond outlet pipe, installing three concrete headwalls and replacing trees that failed from previous projects.

The purpose of general maintenance in this area is to address stormwater runoff, which promotes safety and mitigates flood risk to nearby homes. Benefits include helping to reduce misuse and maintain flood conveyance and capacity. Specifically, we intend to remove invasive weed and tree growth through seasonal mowing and herbicide applications as needed.

The map shows the work area in green and the location of specific planned improvements. Trail access through the work area may be limited during working hours. To best accommodate the project, crews will generally work between 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Trees will be planted in areas based on lessons learned from previous attempts. Some locations will help to provide privacy, while others will be planted based on the amount of water in the area. The contractor will provide tree watering after planting.

Tree planting will be weather dependent, and will likely occur this fall.

We will plant different tree varieties to adjust to the high amounts of water in the area. We also are planting trees in locations based on lessons learned from previous attempts.
